The Ting Tings feared they'd blown their chance to crack America when they went into meltdown at the world's biggest music industry bash.

The duo - singer Katie White and drummer Jules de Martino - thought they'd be safe from the blistering Texas sun playing in a huge tent.

But they still suffered heatstroke during a gig at the massive SXSW festival.

Katie can't rememberwowing 3000 fans because of the effects of the blistering 100F heat.

She said: "We did three gigs a day. At one we played inside a tent. The canvas did nothing to shade us from the sun. Three songs into the set, I began to feel very confused.

"I'm from Manchester so I'm not used to heat. I nearly passed out and thought we'd blown our big chance.

"But we were chosen as one of the best acts. We also went down a storm in Seattle, San Francisco and New York."

Now The Ting Tings are set to taste stardom on home soil.

On May 19 they release debut album We Started Nothing - and the duo are re-releasing single That's Not My Name. They will also appear at T In The Park.

We tipped the pair to be one of the biggest new bands of 2008 and chose That's Not My Name as single of last year.

Katie added: "We've only got a week off for the rest of 2008. It's so exciting."
